Wardrobe Staples – Blazer
Tue 30 Mar 2021
So the next item that I would suggest as a wardrobe staple is a blazer. Some may consider this piece of clothing to be quite formal, but I am going to highlight ways to wear a blazer in a casual way, and therefore make the piece work hard for you in your wardrobe. A blazer can really finish an outfit and create a styled look. Personally, I have a number of blazers and I wear each of them regularly. So although I am suggesting a blazer, it could be that you invest in a number of different blazers after reading this!

There were plenty of blazers on the latest spring summer 2021 catwalk shows. They were shown in a workwear format, over floral dresses, in colours and neutrals and even some sequin blazers.

A black blazer, and you may think formal, but worn with a simple white t shirt, jeans, and either trainers or loafers it creates a very simple, sophisticated look in a casual way. Put on a pair of heels and perhaps a lace trim cami, and you have yourself a perfect outfit for drinks at a bar. I also want to show you that a blazer can be layered over a skirt and top, or a dress too, to create another look. All of the outfits below highlight that a blazer is a very versatile piece and will help pull lots of outfits together from your current wardrobe. For each of the blazers I am going to show you, I will have images of outfits from my wardrobe for inspiration of styling, and then at the end of the blog, I will put some options together that are available online.

Another blazer that I own is a slimmer, navy blazer. I bought this with a pair of tailored shorts, as a short suit, for a wedding guest outfit many years ago. I wear the blazer on its own, and I love this with a Breton stripe and also with a classic white t shirt. Again, this works dressed down with trainers or with heels for a more formal look.

A checked blazer, in a monochrome houndstooth, or a coloured check is another option that I would say is a great wardrobe staple. I have talked about this shape being a hero piece in a previous blog, so I won’t go into too much detail and repeat myself. However, the images below show how this can we worn with jeans, smarter trousers, dresses and skirts, in casual and formal ways.

The next shape I want to mention is a more boxy shape, which is looser and has a casual feel to it. The one I own, I have had for years, and I love wearing this with denim.

Finally, a more oversized option, in a pretty blue cord.
